Abstract

|
It has been well known that blood clotting is commonly disturbed in patients suffering with liver disease. From this fact we are clinically used to do determination of prothrombin time as indicator of liver dysfunction. Nevertheless, little has been known on changes of coagulation factors other than prothrombin in hepatic diseases.
The author has carried out a series of study on changes of blood clotting factors in rabbits Whose liver was damaged by I. M. administration of 20? carbon tetrachloride in olive oil 6 times every other days, and the following results were obtained.
Blood coagulation times were delayed in the rabbits, and it is found that delay is due to a decrease in amount of fibrinogen, prothrombin, factors V, VII, IX, X, and a slight increase in circulating anticoagulant.
